During

•Evacuate if ordered; ash and gases can be deadly
•If staying: close windows/doors/vents, wear a mask outdoors
•Avoid river valleys and low areas (lahar/mudflow paths)

After

•Avoid ashfall driving — ash damages engines and cuts visibility
•Clear heavy ash from roofs carefully (wet ash is very heavy)
•Wear a mask during cleanup; keep ash away from children
